Who invented social dance? – Old Folk Dances

The dance we call social dance and which was used in the courts, was a product of the Enlightenment and of the French Revolution. What does the music and dance of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution have in common? The Enlightenment provided the foundation for a new society based on a free individual. The French Revolution gave us democracy and equality. Equality allows us to live together in freedom.

Social dance and the French Revolution are intimately connected. It is through a free society that freedom can be developed and preserved. Social dance was a form of resistance to the status quo. It became an expression of democracy.

It is difficult to appreciate the richness of social dance without knowing its creator and its origins. One of the great thinkers of early nineteenth-century France, Gaston Bachelard, wrote, “This, indeed, is the true origin of the social dance. The originality lies in the fact that, when men dance, they have an identity with each other, for they have no other relation to the people than to the people’s ancestors.”

Social dance is based in freedom and equality. It shows how we can live through our work, family lives, and friendships. It demonstrates that we can build a better society by freely exchanging with each other.

Social dance also contains a reflection of our values in modern society. Social dance expresses in a song and dance of the old world with modern music and words. Dance reflects freedom, dignity, respect for people and natural phenomena. This is a reflection of a free society. It is not an expression of the “old time aristocracy,” as Bachelard and Rousseau called them.

Social dances of the French Revolution show many features of the present: freedom as well as equality; a culture of sociality and liberty; the expression of the old values of liberty and equality; and the celebration of the joy and beauty of life.

The social dance was conceived at the end of the nineteenth century in Europe. It appeared in France because the European countries were divided over their interests in the Napoleonic war. It is only the French Revolution that is known in the West by the title “dance of liberty,” and “dance of equality.” The French revolution gave us the idea of freedom and equality.

The social dance represents the spirit of Europe, and is the greatest expression of the French Revolution.
