What is Marcelled hair? – Flapper Dress With Sleeves

Marcelled hair is the result of a chemical reaction between salt, wax and silica crystals and minerals that are found in hair – and sometimes, the body as well. As you can imagine, this causes a lot of hair to be slightly “off”.

What can you do about it?

There is a variety of treatments for it, but they all do little or nothing: they’re only temporary and in short supply.

To fix, or get rid of it, you can either treat by waxing or by removing the mineral deposits with a conditioner or moisturiser.

When removing the minerals, be sure to wash your hair with hot water before using to get the moisture from the minerals out.

You can also use oils to remove the hair, as well as a gentle exfoliating shampoo (like Tarte’s Best Moisturising Shampoo).

Another way to treat it is with a treatment from Dr David Levy, who has a website you can visit for more information.

Do you have a slightly pointed chin?

Are your natural curls and pigtails a bit loose?

If your hair is naturally wavy/curly there may be some additional issues you need to be aware of, like silky or coarse hair, as well as thinning strands.

How to find out if you’re a curly girl

Some curlers can tell if they’re a curly girl by looking at your hair. When a curler checks your hair they’re likely to pick out a few characteristics:

Your hair’s naturally wavy or curly.

You have an unusual shape to your hair.

There is not a lot of volume in your hair, and there’s lots of straight edges.

You’re not the type who likes to curl/tumble.

These might be more obvious if you’re also straight-haired or if the wavy shape of your hair has turned into a “tape
