Were they always wearing pink stuff? Were they always wearing white? They were wearing yellow, they were wearing blue, I don’t remember. They probably weren’t wearing white, but I know they were wearing some color of white that is very popular in the ’30s. And I don’t know why.
What was the most popular color?
You’d think a white guy would think it would be black and white but I would find out in the ’50s and ’60s [it would be] blue. [And] the most popular color was yellow. Why did they wear that?
Can you name a color of jewelry you don’t know?
White with an orange or a pink necklaces on. Why would you do that? Why didn’t you wear a black or white necklace?
If you were to paint your face, what color would you choose to paint it?
The color of my skin would be white but the color of my eyes would be red.
If you could give one piece of advice to a young woman in your position, what would it be?
To get a college education, you have to be interested in history…
What was the most exciting thing about being in that group?
Being with these young people, it was just exciting. All of this enthusiasm and good-fellowship that we had.
When did you start out in the movie business?
It was 1948, I started at age 17 or 18 [and] I was making short films, commercials, stuff that wasn’t exactly big on television. And I started getting some film roles and I was doing it in New York and my agent said, “Well, could you get this role to Brooklyn?” A girl said she wanted to do ‘a movie about what happened when the Germans came to your little town on the border with France.” I said, “Who is this?” And the girl said, “I want to do a movie about the liberation of France, the resistance and the Resistance.” And I said, “No.” And then she said, “Here’s your role.” So I go, “Yeah, it’s fine. It’s OK. You get it too. ”
You say the word “resist,” which I’m sure wasn’t the original title. How did you spell “resist”?
That’s the first I heard it. I said, “Wait, wait a minute. I think it’s ‘
