Yes, definitely. For the most part, keyboardists who want to learn piano do need a keyboard. However, there are situations where a keyboard is not really necessary, and it may be better to learn without the keyboard if you’re comfortable with how you’re going to hold your instrument. Below is an alphabetical list of the keyboard-less keys of piano, in case you are curious.

Mute

K – K. It is a mute key on the piano. (This key is usually labeled on most pianos)

R – R. This is a rotary control on the piano.

P – P. It is a pedal of some sort on the piano. (Usually labeled on most pianos)

C – C. This is used for tuning the piano. (On some pianos the piano sits on a tuning pedal)

S – S. This is the mute key of the piano, as indicated, and it is usually located on or near the top of piano. (The bottom will be a bit more tricky.)

L – R. This key is located on or near side of piano and it is used for releasing the piano.

RST – RST. It can be located anywhere on the piano, as long as it’s the right way around. The sound of the RST key is identical to that of the return key.

In order for this to be audible, you have to move your left hand around the left hand pedal to use the left hand pedal.
