A group of students, teachers and community members, known as “Feminists for Free Speech” are organizing a protest against an upcoming event held by Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the University of Virginia’s Ramblewood Avenue Student Union.

“We will be asking McDaniel, ‘How did you know we weren’t going to be here?” said one of the co-founders of the group that called itself “Feminists for Free Speech.” But, in a statement to Fox News, McDaniel denied that the group is trying to start a disruption “and will not be seeking to cause any trouble.”

McDaniel, of Virginia, will appear at the event, as will Republican National Committee Vice Chairwoman Stephanie Schriock, a former Republican staffer. The other guests will include Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), Rand Paul (R-KY), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Bob Corker (R-TN), and Richard Shelby (R-AL).

The National Republican Campaign Committee, which is hosting the event, has not yet responded to a request from Fox News seeking comment.

“It’s unfortunate that the organizers of this event have chosen to exclude members of our own community, many of whom are already subjected to hate speech and harassment from both sides of the aisle,” McDaniel statement said. “The University of Virginia has always been a welcoming environment for those with differing opinions and I’m grateful that they have supported my effort to host this event.”

The protest, dubbed “Feminists for Free Speech,” will begin at 3 p.m. at Ramblewood on the UVA campus.

“It’s very upsetting that you see these people who have such tremendous power at the table are so blind,” McDaniel said Wednesday, referring to the attendees.

As part of the protest, the group will try to get the event canceled. The group is hoping to call attention to the fact that the invitation was made without the input and consent of the university. The group also believes that a group of mostly female, but also men, are at risk of being bullied and assaulted over an event organized by men.

Students have been gathering at the location for weeks in preparation for the event, and they plan to organize a counter protest on Sunday evening. McDaniel has been invited to the event by the National Republican Club and the Ram
