There are white rappers all over the place! I don’t think the white majority in hip-hop has any problem with that. We’re talking about white people being the ones that are putting this stuff together—black rappers, white rappers, brown rappers, black rappers with white-ness in the title, and we are just like, “Yo! I’m up here and I’m doing the moves.” But it’s like you’re like, “Yo! So what? It’s white people doing this?” This is the new hip-hop, what does it mean for your blackness to be in the title?

As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t matter, but it’s really just the new blackness that is in the title of this album. You’re talking about hip-hop coming into a place where it’s like, “Yo! This is our fucking culture!” You’re talking about this new blackness that we came to have and what is the new blackness that we’re in these streets with? I don’t like when we talk about hip-hop with black people as opposed to white people because that’s just white people coming up and saying, “You know what? I’m a rapper, I ain’t a white rapper, so I’m going to say this word and I’m saying these things.” You know what I mean? I’m not a black artist or black artist, but I’m definitely a rapper. And I am also a writer because I’m a writer. They’ve taken things out of context and out of their reality. They put in all the white people in them and that’s just not who it is. Black people coming together and putting those words out there is dope. I love the way they do it. They have got a lot of great stories to tell.
