The first step is to make a list of the things you want to learn and how your style fits into all of these things. Do these things involve painting or something else? Do any of the things in that order look interesting to you?
I’ll be listing out my own ideas in a future post, but what I will tell you right now is that as I start to write this, I am not sure if I can paint my way into painting, but I’m not entirely out of options.
Now, while I can’t paint this way by rote, I can use my own experience and what I have learned to inform my choice.
The next step is to make a plan.
A plan is a description of what you are planning to do, how you plan to do it, what the end goal is, and what you are going to have to overcome to get to it.
This can be pretty daunting because there is so much going on in one’s head as you begin to draw. One can imagine the various ideas we have as we begin to draw and it can get very exciting very quickly. When you try to do one project at a time and a project at a time and a project at a time then a plan is a bit like playing a musical instrument. While it might be easier for you to play at a time like 8:30 am, then at 6 PM then when you play at 6 pm what is going to happen? The piano or guitar is going to sound slightly different, but the sound of each instrument will be the same and you have to know what is going on in your head. This process can help a lot to prevent a lack of progress in one’s skills and will also help get you focused when you are starting on something new.
I also like to have my own sketchbook, some kind of notebook that has pens, paper, pencils and markers but has enough space for a list of things to consider before starting any project. My sketchbook is probably two or three sizes too big, but when I’m out and about I keep it at least in mind. If you don’t have a sketchbook and have had a lot of success with sketching in one’s sketchbook or notebooks then it is a great source of ideas. Just make sure it is somewhere away from anything you find in your home.
I used to sketch at home when I was younger, but by the time I had learned how to paint and had a
