It’s really not that hard, the main problem you’ll run into is the fact you have to put photos on a site and it will be a little confusing to explain what to put where… This can be a lot of work to figure out how to format a few photos on your website. If you are familiar with Photoshop, there’s a few things you should know in order to take advantage of the free tools.
1) Create a new document
With Illustrator, you have to open a new document without editing to create it. With Photoshop, you can do it while you’re still in the same document as you would a normal page:
Now open Photoshop and create a new document.
There are a number of different forms there. You can also use a Photoshop document in a new document with the tools in Photoshop. For the more technical, I suggest the excellent free website of Chris DeChambeau which has the perfect introduction by Matt Brown.
2) Select the photos
Here’s an example of a list of photos for a poster made to display in a gallery:
Select all the photos.
You will be looking for these four keys to quickly get started:
– Select all the images in the document.
– Open the document and highlight all the photos in the document. This will automatically place them on the screen.
– Open the document in Photoshop.
– Select the photos.
3) Add the photo
Go to the “Pillbox” tool in Photoshop and add the photo to the document. I’m using a picture of mine as a guide – you can use any photo of whatever you want:
4) Add text
Using your text editor, add your text. It can be really easy to mess up with text in Photoshop but I like to go into the font settings in Illustrator and set a default font that I actually trust:
I’ll add an extra sentence, making the last half of the sentence italicized:
Now select all the photos (select all the photo groupings in the document) and add the text to the page. You can also use text in a separate layer and change the color to change it a bit.
Make a few changes depending on what you want:
I added the ‘blessed’ caption, as this gives a nice image for a photo to place over a poster in my gallery.
