The second season of the Netflix-Amazon animated series The Tick premiered on November 10. It starred Jason Momoa as the titular character, a feisty and brilliant scientist who gets stuck in time with a band of misfits. It was an unconventional choice for the show, in that it was created by Kevin Williamson and Eric Kripke, the duo behind The Legend of Korra and The Avengers.
Momoa explained that the show is a story about being “on the wrong side of history” while at the same time knowing that “it’s the right side” and “the best choice” to be on that side.
“You can be on the right side or the wrong side of history,” Momoa told EW. “So that is what I try to make my show about.”
It has proven challenging for Netflix to find a world that does not devolve into a superhero show. Momoa joked that he was working on his own feature film, which he hopes to do sometime this year, in his free time. “I’ve been trying to get this film done for a little while,” he said. “Not even just on The Tick, either — I can’t even get the film out of my head.”
As for his upcoming role in Star Wars: Episode IX, which starts shooting early next year, Momoa has no idea what it will be. But he’s very excited about it.
“I have no idea. It would have had to come from Disney. I’ve heard that. I don’t know anything. You’ll have to be patient, because there’s a lot of work to do,” he told EW. “I feel excited, like, ‘Oh yeah! It’s the Star Wars thing.’ I’ve heard all kinds of rumours.”
