One group in the study that was assigned to an exercise program (which was shown to be effective) and one group that did not were assigned to the control diet for two weeks (which did not work). The study results indicated that the group that walked at slower speed had lost an average of 2.5 pounds per month from a baseline of 2,639 calories (a weight loss of 2.4 pounds per week), compared to an overall weight loss of 1.9 pounds per month in the control group.
