Is belly dancing difficult to learn?

I think it’s actually much simpler than that. In a way, belly dancing can be a lot more fun than it appears. When you first start learning, you can learn basic moves, and start to do basic routines where you’re trying to look good, but it doesn’t really seem that intimidating once you get the hang of it.”

I think of how, for instance, when you first learn to walk or dance—that’s a much bigger deal than what’s on the board. And you think about what, if you’re not an expert walker or dancer, a little bit of this won’t mean anything. But once you’ve been doing it—that’s when you start making sense of it. And as soon as you start, you realize that these things have really great potential to make you feel better and make you happy.

I think of that as a good part of the learning process—trying out things like that, really trying new moves and seeing how they work with other moves. It doesn’t really matter—that’s already been done. If you can do it, it’s a very good thing.”

“So many of my fans are, you know, people who don’t know me. I like to think of it as a little bit like cooking. It’s an art. It’s an art that requires a certain range of techniques. It’s not just a technique that they can just do and get good at because it’s a simple skill. It’s not like, oh I didn’t want to do it. There’s an art to it. So when people ask me about my routines or my videos or my book I’m like, “Look, it’s a very complicated skill, but if you work at it—and I think people think it’s one thing, it’s a totally different thing, and that’s just how I do it—but if you work at it and get better at it you get to make even more beautiful, beautiful body. I think that’s something that’s pretty amazing. I think it’s amazing. But, you know, I don’t want you to think it’s all easy. I don’t want you to think you can do whatever you want. I want you to work at it and keep trying to get better and more beautiful. It’s such an enormous undertaking but it’s worth it. It makes you feel so
