The term “hip hop dance style” refers to what is thought of as an aesthetic, and the dance styles originated in the West Coast of the United States and then spread to Europe, South America, and other parts of the globe.
It is not the same as what is known as “rap” dance style and does not reflect the same cultural backgrounds with its influences originating from Europe and Asia.
What are hip hop songs used for?
Unlike the music style established by artists such as the Beatminerz and Beastie Boys, hip hop itself does not have a specific genre of music. Instead, the genre is defined by the overall sound that a DJ or producer or artist of any type performs.
What can’t I do to be hip hop?
Because hip hop may be a style that is loosely defined or not tied to a specific genre, DJ’s and artists should not be expected to make their own style, so please be very aware of the requirements and guidelines below:
No songs should be made with hip hop lyrics unless you are being professional at making a rap song.
No songs should be made with hip hop/funk tunes unless you are being professional at making a hip hop song.
No songs that have been made without hip hop vocals or the use of hip hop samples should be made unless your music is considered hip hop music.
No music that has been made in a style that has no relation to the style of the artist should be made unless your music is considered hip hop music.
No music should be made with Hip Hop Drum and Bass unless your music is considered to be hip hop/funk.
No music should be made using rap tracks, unless your music is intended to be considered hip hop.
No music should be made with Hip Hop Rave unless your music is considered to be hip hop. Hip Hop Rave is a genre of music that is unique to electronic music.
No music should be made using the song or instrumental which contains the rhyming style of the artist and a hook.
No songs should be created for the purpose of using only hip hop rhymes unless your music is intended to be hip hop.
No tracks should be created for using only rap or “funk” beats and beats which are of a higher tempo than what a DJ can use.
No tracks should be played on the radio, unless your music is meant to be hip hop.
