I’ve had my degree in film because I didn’t have the money to find jobs.
I got on a bus and went through film school. My mother’s got a Master’s degree in journalism. She had to quit when I was in high school. She was so good at writing.
My dad had a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He took pictures for a living. When he was in his third year at Purdue, he went and joined the Navy. He got a little bit of a job. It was the Navy for guys that wanted to go fishing.
Did you go to college yourself?
No. I got a job and paid my way through. But they didn’t teach you how to get the money to go to school.
You’ve said that making these movies is like having an income stream. But how do you plan to make a living?
I’ve got my own company, and I take some of my investments on the side. I work for the same company as Tom, and I sell stuff.
It’s sort of a dual line of work. I work for my money and sell stuff and I take some of my investments on the side.
I would like to be in some capacity involved with the film industry, but that’s not going to happen. It’s more of a side gig where I make a living for all of people that have the same interest I have.
Do you ever wonder how much people make from the film industry?
I think it’s quite high.
I like to think it’s much higher, because it makes me think of all my neighbors. I get to meet them. It’s crazy that I do this for a living.
Is it hard to tell how much you make?
[Laughs] Maybe it’d be hard to tell how much we make just from movies. I feel good about what I’m making. It’s just something that’s so fun.
As you look ahead, what do you hope to be doing next?
I want to be out in front with my friends who are making great movies.
So you’re going to make a movie?
Yeah. One of the things I’ve been trying to do is make a movie as well as the other things we’ve been doing. That’s what this is. I don’t want to be a slave. I don’t want to try to do everything
