How do you become a cinematographer? – The Art Of Documentary Filmmaking Courses Free

How many years of professional experience do you have? And how big is your budget for this project?

You get it by reading everything I do. That’s it, that’s it, I’m not even that hard. It’s an art form and to me that’s the biggest thing in cinema. It’s a lot of hard work, it’s a lot of sweat sweat and you’re working a lot of weekends, and I get to see things and see life that I didn’t even know existed until my second job. I’ve had a huge amount of luck working for the big studios and I think I’m more lucky then anyone I know but I guess I was lucky that way at first. I was a working actor and a working director. One of the things I was lucky to do was working at Paramount. It was an incredible job. They had the biggest budget, the best talent there and there were three or four of us cinematographers that all got together and said, “Let’s make this movie. Let’s make this movie.” It was a lot of fun, it was a great experience. But, when I say lucky, I mean it. What was great, it is.

Well, I’ve seen movies where all of the film sets were in the same room in the same building. In those kinds of movies, you’ve gotta take a different way of doing the camera work. It was one of the first time I actually learned the camera way. It really was my first chance to learn the actual filmmaking, which is an incredibly hard thing to achieve. I was always an actor. I was a great actor, but I just couldn’t do the things I would do if I was doing a movie. So I just decided I’d learn the camera way. You shoot to a spot. You put the camera on a tripod and then you keep your head in front of you. When you’re working on a scene, that is when I really started focusing on the camera work. But, I remember that I never really found the right place to work. Every time I was working on the film – there was a time when I worked on The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and I was in the film set – I had a huge crew in the back and a great set that looked awesome.
