Here we start off by writing a simple script, something to start off of. It’s important to note that we are not actually going to write the original script, but rather rewrite it together over the course of the next three hours and share the resulting version with you.
I’ve found that it’s best to start with a clear and simple goal for the project:
A project to work on
A simple goal that works out of the box and isn’t subject to change
That will set the tone for the rest of the project
Next is a list of items we want to complete in order:

The plan is all on paper and that plan is what you should be writing in order to get ready for the meeting. The only real difference is that we are going to write the plan for the initial phase. We will then go through the script to try to work through any issues on the way. Once the script is set and locked down, we can start to focus on the other items.
Before we continue, here’s how the script went down for this first iteration:
The script outline
So first thing we do is set up a script outline. It’s an important element of our process. This will help us focus on getting the story right first and foremost when we are writing, rather than worrying about what other people want to see in their screenplays.
If you get a script outline in advance you will be able to make sure you get the exact same thing. You can set up your scripts in any order you like and they’ll work as one cohesive script.
The outline should list everything from the story to the characters, even those they will never see. The point of the outline is to give it an easy to follow structure so that the next time we write, a project manager or agent will be able to quickly navigate through it.
Now it’s time to focus on writing the main page of the script. I like to keep it simple and try to keep my pages to about 30 seconds. I start off by writing a paragraph or two on this page. Next I begin by laying out my story:
