Before I go into the technical details, I first want to highlight that Lightroom is by far the most important photo enhancement app you can use and that you are likely the only person who would know this because you use it every day to shoot photos for your blog. It is incredibly powerful and has a lot of very important functions that will help you to make every photo you take even better.
But as mentioned above, it is possible to use other photo editing software, which in my experience are great tools, but you won’t need them for many of the photographs you will take. You can read more about that in my article on using alternative photo editing software to get the best out of Lightroom 5.
So if you are looking for something else but don’t need all that features Lightroom includes, here are some alternatives.
Photo Editing Software
Before I go into the options, I should mention that there are no good alternative photo editing applications out there. But there are lots of excellent and user-friendly alternatives on the market for many applications. And most of them will be free to use as well.
To check them out you have to register for a free trial so that you can evaluate them and make use of all the possibilities. There is also an option for you to get paid for the program you are using. The biggest drawback with these are the time savings, as they cost you a month of use, so there should be no excuse to not at least try them out before you sign up!
There are two major programs you can try for free: Photoshop and the popular Lightroom.
To be honest, in my experience Lightroom 5 is as good at capturing good photos as it was in the previous version Lightroom 4.2.
So you should never have to leave Lightroom even if you are using other software.
In short, these are the most popular photo editing programs:
Image-Line is another free photo editing program with a lot of nice features. As I said, this also has a free trial period, so you can get to find out if it is good for you. The main drawback is that it can be tricky to configure. You need to have Adobe Connect installed on your PC or laptop, and that’s really hard to do without running it on a Mac or Linux machine.
Image-Line also allows you to crop, rotate and skew images, which helps to produce many great images.
