DALLAS — The Cleveland Cavaliers got revenge on a Dallas team with a win of their own on Sunday.
Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson were on the court for the final nine minutes as James got the last laugh, scoring a season-record 56 points as the Cavaliers beat the defending Western Conference champion Mavericks 100-90.

“We knew it was going to be a tough one for us,” James said. “Dallas is the tough team. Dallas is the team that I’ve had to work their butts off for four years. So they were going to be ready to go, but I was able to get the final few things going tonight.”
Cleveland (49-31) has a healthy LeBron James, who has been playing well enough to give the Cavaliers a chance at the NBA title this season. But the Cavaliers have had their chance several times since the end of October to get back in the title game. Their last title come-from-behind victory was in 2011, their second trip to the NBA Finals.
Tristan Thompson scored 22 points off the bench, but his 20 points in two second-half minutes off the bench were more impressive. He scored the last nine of Cleveland’s final 10 points, including a 3-pointer with 0:40 left and two free throws with a second left to seal the winning margin, the longest by a Cleveland player this season.
“This is really one that is for [Kyrie] and himself,” Cavs coach David Blatt said. “So the first thing we did was take an extra 10 minutes to do that. But once I watched it, I have to say, how can you not feel happy when you see Kyrie come along and get the win? To be honest, I can’t say much else.”
