I have no way of knowing.” He shook his head. “Besides, if you could draw I could have you out at any moment! If you’re bad now it’s because the world has gone out of your hands, and you’ve run out of ideas.”
“Oh, come on. All you have to do is draw, if you want to.” I tried to argue back with him, but there was too much to take in. I’d spent so many years being stuck with the same old cliche that I just couldn’t keep up.
Terezi rolled her eyes. “I have no intention of drawing anyone. I won’t let you draw my friends for you, I promise!” She looked around the room. “I’m sorry, but we’re going to go upstairs for a moment.” She said, with all the sincerity in the world.
The door slammed, and they looked around the room. I went back out to meet with Rachel.
Ruth put my backpack down and turned toward me. “How was your first day on the job?”
“Fine.” I shrugged a shoulders. “Still a little busy, though.”
“That’s good to hear.” She smiled. “I knew you might not be on the best of terms with some of your workers.”
“That was the best way to put it.” I said.
“What about the rest of the place?” She asked, still not looking at me.
“We just finished fixing the printer a few blocks away. We were going to set up a table there to sell your stuff. I don’t get a lot of time outside the office anymore, so I want to be here for as long as I can.” It was still cold, but this was my first trip outside.
She nodded. “It’ll be good exercise for you. You should start feeling better soon. I’m going to take us up to the roof and have a drink when you’re ready.” She was a good cook, and I could tell this was a place she could be trusted to make good food.
“I won’t.” I said.
“Good. Now, back to work.” Ruth smiled. “Now where are you going to have us work tomorrow?”
“I think we do well enough that it’ll all be up to me. I think my schedule is a little busy right now, so I’ve got to make the most of things.
