A man fatally shot his girlfriend Thursday morning during a suspected domestic disturbance outside her home, Los Angeles police said.
The shooting happened at 8:40 a.m. in the 500 block of Greenlawn Place South, where officers were attempting to serve the arrest warrant, according to Los Angeles Police Department News Affairs Officer Meegan Fox.
Officers heard a gunshot and tried to talk with the victim and her son at the home in the 3200 block of West Hill Avenue South, Fox said. The son told police his mother was in tears over the incident, Fox said.
Police found the body of the victim with a gunshot wound to the head nearby, Fox said. An autopsy revealed the victim had been dead for at least five hours, and the Los Angeles Fire Department took over the medical treatment of the victim and her son.
Witnesses described two men outside the home who said the woman was in “significant discomfort” after an altercation inside the home. At least one witness said the woman was the one shot.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the couple went to sleep early Thursday morning and became distraught when they learned they were still wanted. Police said a man was armed during the struggle. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department
Police said no shots were fired by the victim and suspect because they believed a weapon could not have been discharged.
The names of the couple who live in the home were not immediately released.
