No. There’s no problem with starting with a guitar. Just make sure if you ever start a session playing through a kit, that you’re going to move into something you like more. If you’re playing acoustic acoustic guitars, you don’t really have to bother with electric ones, and it’s the same with electric bass.
Are there any effects that you prefer that aren’t there?
Yes, there are two. One I’ve always loved is the Wah. A lot of people love the Wah box, but I don’t love it. I’d prefer something a little more analogue.
I’ve got it.
But they’re not the ones that I want in my rigs. We’ve just got to get it right.
What were you doing when we were listening to the demos? When it was time to start mixing?
I think when we first started mixing, I was mixing on some of the drums. We used to have a session where we were mixing on a drum machine, and I was using the Wah to get different sounds across the drums in case of percussion, and other things. So I just kept on doing that until we were mixing it.
Was there any particular piece that you needed to work on first?
I need to take those out. I just got it wrong!
Right! The drum tracks are coming through so quick – you’re doing a lot of the mixing, don’t you think?
I was just trying to get some sounds out so I could do stuff. And I was running out of other things to do with my drum kit. I’ve got a lot of stuff.
What happened to the rest of them?
Nothing was left?

I know it’s important to keep things coming, but it seems like the whole project was a lot lighter when you were working with Alex. Was it easier on you to be in his place for a little bit?
I think we both appreciated the fact that he would be in the studio most days, and that he was very capable with the technical side of electronic music. I didn’t really need to go to him for advice all that often. I think everyone needed to be better at that, but he was very knowledgeable. It was a better experience than I would’ve expected.
Did you ever have any concerns when Alex was first using all those stuff on the album?
