In my own video tutorials I talk about what happens when you get the image to a final quality that’s a little above the camera’s capabilities. A good editor will go back and retouch any areas that are out of alignment (which is the whole point of retouching, right?), but most will go in and make slight corrections as an added bonus.
If it seems to be a really simple process, it’s because the process of editing is easy. It’s like making a dish washing job, it’s quick and easy. There are only a few techniques involved, and you’re not going to learn them all. The best way to learn editing is actually to do it, and to try it once and understand why it works, rather than trying to learn it through tutorials and watching an episode of “The X-Files”. I’ll probably write more on editing shortly because in my opinion it’s far more useful to learn how to do something than to see an animation I made and try to understand it.
What is the difference between color theory and color management? There’s nothing that makes a color management scheme any easier or more effective than a decent and accurate color theory. I’m of the opinion that most folks who do color management tend to either overdo it (not really good) or not understand the concepts that make up color theory (more often then not worse). Color theory is essentially how to combine the different colors you have in a specific way to produce a color. Basically all of your images should have a consistent color scheme to make your images look unique. There are tons of tutorials that break down the most basic ideas of color theory which will get you started easily. I won’t even tell you the name and exact details of the color theory software I use, so I’ll just say if you’re looking for a color management program, or how to get color theory into your own work, I can recommend Blender and Photoshop. I have never tried to learn color theory myself but I have been using it for more than 15 years and I really don’t see why anyone could tell me that it can’t be used well for your projects. If you have a question about color management or would like help with a color management project, go to our color-management forum and ask away.
Now, the first thing you should remember when learning anything about color is that colors will always look different from person to person and from scene to scene. That’s a fact. I don’t have any problem with that. It
