No, not the way that I learned to play the piano. I learned about five or six years ago at the local gym. I learned how to do it, but it took me a while. And it was very difficult for me to get up and sing in the first place. It’s been going on for five or six years at the gym, and I still don’t even know how to sing a few basic chords! But I knew when I started this project, I wanted this to be an exercise for me in my personal development and that one day I would be able to be able to take it for real as a singing teacher. I thought if you can’t sing, then no one can!
This isn’t the first time that you’ve recorded a song or two. Can you tell me about all that experience?
That was an experience. It was very exciting and very rewarding, but it was also extremely tedious at the same time. It was a real, real labor! It would take me three or four hours to make a single song, and that didn’t include the recording time of that song. So, I had to do the recording time two or three times and even then I would have one track that I was completely sure I was going to go ahead with, because I didn’t have a clear idea, but it was always the same: “Okay, I’m going to do this, I’m going to do that!” I would always come up with a new idea the next day but I had to work like a dog. The recording time was like a six hour day, with me actually having to be there at the studio the whole time. I had to sit there all day waiting. And sometimes it would be my assistant, who I knew and who worked there, who would leave so I would have to go get another one and it would be the assistant again. So, the recording process was exhausting, to say the least.
How did you get the idea to record songs for the web?
When I started the project, I was just going to give it to a friend and I decided to just record one of my favorite songs—it’s just one of my favorites.
