The main purpose of tar water is to stop septic drains from being filled with sediment. Septic pipes are lined with a mixture of sand and clay. Sand is removed by means of a pressurized sprayer or by flushing. When that sand becomes too soft, water evaporates the water. This reduces septic levels and ensures that the septic pipe is not filled with sediment for long periods.
Tar water is a bit of an oddity in the marine ecosystem, because it is very soft. It is, therefore, relatively impermeable to many elements, such as oxygen or salt.

The marine worm absorbs the dissolved nutrients (the nutrients that allow the marine animal to live and thrive) from the water it has dissolved. How does it work?
Tar water forms when septic tanks are filled with sand or clay, or when the septic system is not properly maintained. By adding an adequate supply of nitrogen, the water becomes saturated through the use of sand or clay. By doing so, a nutrient rich layer is formed. This nutrient solution forms the structure of the tar rock-like sediment.
The nutrient solution has an adverse effect on the marine worm’s metabolism, and the nutrient deposits will not form long-term. As a result, it can take years for a nutrient-rich sediment to accumulate on the septic tank bottom. Over time, the nutrient solution will wear down the septic tank, and the mineral deposits will grow to a point where the septic tank is no longer sufficient for the animal to live or thrive.
How can septic systems be improved?
Because of the problems of septic waste and inadequate maintenance of septic tanks, an effective system cannot be provided. To minimize harmful effects of septic wastewater, the marine worms are most likely to occur under conditions of water stress, poor sanitation conditions, or high levels of nitrogen in the water. Since the organisms in septic systems are unable to survive in water saturated with organic matter, the organisms that do grow are most likely to be in the form of a nutrient solution.
