Children can be taught to play the piano from an early age. From the earliest years of a child’s life when they learn to walk, to the age of 10 years, most children will develop the technique needed in order to achieve the skills of a great pianist.
Children’s piano lessons come in many different styles and lengths. The length of lessons typically ranges from 1/3 to 2 hours per day. Some children will enjoy just one lesson a day but if the time is not available, children can opt for multiple sessions for a higher level of learning. With a child’s progress and skill level the length of time could be extended. The longer the lessons go the more valuable they will be.
How often should piano lessons be started? The beginning stage of piano lessons should be gradual, where each lesson covers a single key, a single set of exercises and/or techniques. The beginner should start the lessons at least a week from the time they first learn the instrument. At 1 month, this time can be increased or decreased depending on the child’s aptitudes. At 2 months the children should try to learn the entire repertoire of the particular instrument.
How often should lessons be done? Generally a beginner should take lessons about 20 times per week at least until the child reaches intermediate ability (about 18 months old). By the time the children reach senior level the practice should be done at least 10-12 times a week.
What are the types/styles of lessons to be done? Piano lessons should be done as prescribed here for you. Some children may require a little extra guidance for certain situations, while others might enjoy working in the studio.
