For me, the price of $2000-plus seems like too much. Some of my friends have spent $10,000-plus, but I think they would never take a chance on a beginner violin even if I paid less. My experience has always been to work hard, always try to teach from a beginner’s perspective, and then let the violin speak for itself.
I’m not trying to say “the more expensive is better” or anything like that. There’s no such thing as a “right” or “best” instrument for playing. I understand that buying a expensive violin is a big investment; after all, an excellent violin is a rarity among the finest playing instruments. But what I’m saying is that you need to think about what a violin should be able to do for you. If you’re looking for a beginner violin, just like any other instrument: for me, a starter violin would be good enough.
So let’s talk about the three main ways to listen to a beginners violin.
First, you can learn from online class videos by professional violinists.
You can also use the web site of a beginners violin teacher if you can’t make it to a professional teacher’s class. Just Google the name of the teacher and you will get the entire history of that online violin site.
Once you have gotten familiar with a beginner violin teacher, I hope you find it inspiring to talk to him. You can learn all sorts of practical knowledge about playing from him, and some of these lessons may be useful for your own learning path. You don’t have to be a violin expert to find a good teachers.
Another option is to visit a home store, like the one shown below. You will find online violin videos with excellent piano music and music lessons to help you learn to play from all sorts of pieces from the classical to jazz violin repertoire.
Another option is to just get in touch with a violin expert you already know. I have never had trouble finding a good violin teacher with whom I can collaborate. That’s how I got my first beginner violin lesson—not one from a website!
What does a beginner violinsmith cost, and how much does it cost?
The cheapest beginner violin you can buy is a Bach Violin or Bach Viola, or a Steinway, Schubert, or possibly a Drexel Viola. The difference is:
The cost of a Bach violin is in the vicinity of $400, and
