When you’ve done that, you burn some calories, but you’ll get your total in more ways than one.

So when you’re actually doing something, if it burns more calories, more important is the number involved and what you’re actually doing. You can’t do your leg extension in a high rep, weightlifting workout with the same amount of work as you could do with a high rep, weightlifting workout and expect the calories to be the same. But you can do the same exact workout and do it a certain way and it will burn the same number of calories. When you’re just doing your normal, low reps and you’re just doing that leg extension thing – it probably won’t burn this many calories since your leg extension is really a single muscle contraction. But you can do that leg extension thing and still do the other lifts with a fraction of the same work.
If you want to burn more calories, you can do your leg extension, you can do a low rep, high rep leg extension and they’ll burn the same number of calories because that leg extension exercise has the same number of reps. But there are other ways you can make your legs hard and you can be an absolute monster in the squat, but it’s very, very rare. If you’re in your 10’s you can do a few low rep squats in the gym, but you’re probably doing maybe five to six of those in a workout.
So, your typical routine might be five low rep, three high rep squats and you’ll burn about 2,000 calories while doing that because it’s hard work.
