Maine police are investigating a stabbing death.
Police responded to a residence on West Washington Street near Main Street Monday and found the man, whose name has not been released, in the driveway, according to State Police spokesman David Procopio.
Police said he had been stabbed by the woman, believed to be 31 years old, who was in the driveway with the man and their child.
Procopio said the woman was taken into custody, but he could not immediately release details as police continue to investigate.
He said it’s too early to say whether the man is related to the victim, or what he was doing in the home.
Police were called to Maine’s Capital city at approximately 6:18 p.m. on Monday by a witness who said he heard a person screaming coming from what appeared to be a kitchen, Procopio said. Two police cruisers arrived within four to five minutes, but no one was hurt.
The man sustained several stab wounds to the upper body and was transported to the Maine Medical Home, Procopio said. A knife was found in his waistband and he had been stabbed in the foot. Police do not believe the stabbing was intentional. Procopio did not release the name of the man, who has not yet been formally charged.
The incident happened in Northeast Portland, Procopio said.
