I sing my songs to the music I love, my favorite artist of all time or even when I’m traveling. When I write songs or when my songs get played. I like to enjoy music and have fun so if you have a chance to sing with me, you have to take it!
What are the biggest struggles you’ll face in singing?
Being in a group with other vocalists in many places, where many things have to happen for a solo performance, especially at school. I always wish when I have a solo song that I could stay in my dorm or my hotel room and have a little space on the bus or when waiting at airports for my flight.
What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you about singing?
I wish I could have a person telling me to work harder with my voice. I know I’m talented and I’m confident but I think I’m also a little insecure, too. The person who gave this advice was someone who has always heard me sing and asked me for advice so I’ve always said that I hope you could feel less insecure!
Which singers do you most want to follow, either as a solo artist or as a group member?
If I had to pick one vocalist, it would be Christina Aguilera. I’ve been a fan of her music since my teen years and watching her speak from the stage made me a fan even before I ever had the chance to sing along!
What’s the first instrument you learned to sing and why did you start?
Do you have any advice for someone who wants to go into singing?
I encourage everyone to listen to their favorite music with an open mind and enjoy the journey they’re on. You’ll get to experience the best of what that music is all about and hopefully love your voice through life. I think the key to staying motivated is to always take in as much as you can without judgement. I always say, “Just remember this one little truth: Don’t worry about whether you have good hands or bad hands—the key is to always focus on what your singing can achieve.” So to each of these questions I would ask, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” If you want to be singing, then that’s what we’ll be talking about!
