Maurice H. “Maurice” Jones — one of the world’s richest ventriloquist — became one of the wealthiest men in Canada in 1987. He owns a condominium building in Ottawa and owns a stake of around 80 per cent of the Ottawa International Airport (IATA: ONT – news story). The airport, which also bears his name, has been operating since 1971 and has an annual operating budget of over $200 million.
The Ottawa Sun reported that Jones is currently worth around $4 billion and is the richest man in Canada with a net worth of around $4.5 billion. He is also worth one and a half billion dollars more than David Geffen, the record-breaking investor and entertainment manager.

In 1990, the Forbes magazine magazine published the list of the World’s Billionaires and was ranked by the magazine as the No. 1 richest individual in the world, earning a hefty $11.8 billion. One of Canada’s wealthiest men, Jones was ranked No. 34 on the list of the 100 richest Canadians. His father, Maurice Jones, was the founder of the Canadian Pacific Railway and was also responsible for the construction of a high-tech satellite terminal in the Montreal. He was also CEO of the Canadian Tire building and sold the chain to Sears Canada in 1977. Jones’ father died in 2009.
