First lessons are usually for beginners, when you can understand the basics of what you’re doing and don’t mind just playing around. You never know, you could be starting on a violin in your early forties and still having lots of fun later. So just go in knowing the basics and stick with them because when it comes to playing, playing is life or death. There’s too many different styles and instruments to learn. So I guess I’d say it should start young.
Where should you learn from?
The people I’ve known, and have spent time with, are the most important part of any teacher. I’m lucky that they see how my passion, my desire to play and share that with others, has impacted others through sharing my passion with all of them. And in turn, these teachers have all had the opportunity to learn and grow from these people and in turn that has given them more knowledge and skills to share with their students as well. From there, everyone will benefit from all of it as they continue to pass it on to their students.
How to play the violin well?
There are many things that you should work on as a violin player. The ones I work on more than anything are rhythm, stamina, balance, arm strength, accuracy, technique, and so many things that I have trouble keeping up with today. But again, those are the parts I’ll be most proud of.
Where do you see yourself professionally in 5 years?
In 5 years, I’d like to continue to share what I’ve learned with as many people as I can. I don’t think that this is all about teaching but more about making people and communities better. With your support, I will continue to play and share what I have learned in a great way.
Where’d you learn to play?
As a child, my dad taught me from my earliest stages in childhood, which was always just getting to play music. So what I learned at these early ages was how to play and what to listen to before I even really got started. But of course, this is just one of many avenues I explore in my life and as a result, there’s so many things I love to do, including pursuing a career in teaching.
