Let’s say that you have a professional crew doing three-minute edits and it costs you a lot of money to produce the videos. What do you do?
What happens if you’re unable to find a high-paid, steady job somewhere?
To be honest, we don’t have any answers either. I can say that in the case of the two most well-known freelances, the freelance videographer and the videographer with a camera, the best case scenario is that they have enough money to do more videos, for their lifestyle. The alternative, depending of course on the situation, is that they might be forced to reduce their work to a living-wage level. For the professional, that is the first time they might experience this in their profession.
How does your workflow differ from other freelancers?
I think everybody is different, for different reasons they work differently. Some, like you, are really active users in the digital world and that means that they are active users for their product and they have a lot of interaction with it. For people who have a personal business where they don’t have the time to get a lot of work done, the freelancing process is better than what we have at the moment.
You said that you were still paying off some of the debts incurred to shoot the documentary. Is that still happening?
As I said, the film took three years to finalize. At this point, we were about 40 percent of the way through it and I was paid back, so I think we are really close to the end. That might sound long, but the end was the result of a lot of hard work. Now, on the other side, we have to consider the film’s future as far as money and time goes. We can’t go away from photography.
Have you been to see “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes?”
Yes, on my day off I did. It’s my favorite movie, it’s very good and it really made a difference in my life. I saw the film with my family, and for a lot of reasons in our family, I watched the film because it was my family’s favorite film. It’s a really good film.
