Well, a dance pole doesn’t get much fat, no matter how long it is. It’s just really hard to lift. You could actually walk across one, but it’s very heavy and you’d feel very strange (but it’ll be easier by the time you start dancing).
There’s a big difference between the weight and the length for a piece of rope, which is why I don’t recommend just taking it around your house to practice.
A typical 4 inch wide and 6 inch wide wire is rated at around 10 lbs per foot, so a single pole will weigh around 6lbs. If you have a long fence, it’ll probably weigh about 2,500 lbs. A 3 feet deep garden shed probably weighs around 3 or 4,000 lbs.
So how much do you need to set an adult dance pole up so it’s big enough for your kid? This is the basic answer:
If you’re using an upright dance pole, the height limit is 4 feet, 2 inches or taller. To be able to dance through a pole, you’ll need another pole that’s at least 20 feet tall. To put it simply: if you use a dance pole 5 feet from the ground and your kid dances through, it’ll be a 20 foot dance pole! If you go to a 10 foot pole and are still getting good at it, you’ve got one of the biggest pieces of furniture in the land.
If you have a long yard and are able to use multiple trees, you’ll be able to dance around them and still be able to sit down comfortably.
If you have a large fence that won’t give enough freedom, you can tie down your pole at a higher height, but it’ll be a bit more difficult. The big danger is that the pole will be knocked out of position if you try to jump and it falls to the ground. The biggest danger is that people can get in the way and kick at you.
You could theoretically use a wire as a foundation or fence, but a 1 foot diameter wire will work very nicely for most applications.
If you have an 18 foot fence, you’ll have to find something to go around it with. If the pole can only reach a few feet off the ground in a dance, no big deal, just tie down a piece of string to make the pole extend out some more.
If you want to make it longer, use a pole that’s over two feet tall. And if you want a
