It depends.
For the beginner you should probably only learn electric, and then move on to electric guitar with all the tricks and techniques. It will be a lot more enjoyable when you learn how to play all the notes on your electric guitar, so I would recommend it to people who don’t have much experience.
But if it is a bit easier for you to get around with an electric guitar you should always try.
You may also want to get a guitar with an active pickup and to play it on its own. For example, if you are going to play solo or just to jam on your electric guitar, and you don’t want to have to put a plug in, you can do that by connecting an active pickup to a pedal that is plugged directly into your channel.
What about the tone of the guitar?
The first guitar that you own is going to have the most influence on the tone of your guitar; it is only natural that you’d want to take that and make it work on a different kind of tone.

Yes, but I would never recommend playing only electric guitar for the beginning level, because once you have built up an understanding of how to play with an electric guitar, you should know how to play with any pickup to get a particular tone, and it should sound awesome.
If you are going to take lessons at all the first few years, a guitar should always be a priority, so you’d need at least $500-$1000 to help cover the cost of lessons.
However, you can also take lessons if you are really serious about playing jazz guitar and want to really focus the learning into a specific subject.
This is probably a good idea for people who want to pick up on all the different chord voicings and scales so as to make learning on a whole better with a lot of practice.
It’s a great opportunity if you can afford a good lesson, but even if you don’t have that, it would be a good idea to do this for some practice anyway. It will make your playing practice better, so you’ll want to do this as often as you can.
For jazz guitar beginners, you shouldn’t be learning over any other jazz guitar. You’ll gain that little bit of a boost in the lower registers and can learn to do some interesting things with some of those weird jazz voicings.
