There is no set number of months you must go before becoming totally confident in your guitar playing. One thing you need to remember is how to play an instrument that you’re interested. A guitar doesn’t need to be the first instrument in your life. In fact, it probably shouldn’t be. But for some people, guitar can become the first instrument in their life.
For most people, the ideal age range is about 10 to 14. But I think the biggest factor is how much time a person has. After getting to that age, you’re going to become more attuned to your body, and you’re going to play a full range of body types. You may be more comfortable on your neck than your thumb if you’re young. If you have a lot of experience, you can start around age 14 and just keep playing longer.

How is it that most people think professional guitar players are overworked?
It’s true that many people are overworked, though, in this country. And we have a lot of high-pressure jobs in the public sector, so many people work very long hours. But we also have many of the jobs, like being a lawyer, being a firefighter, that are part-time. In fact, it was in the early ’60s that the term “jobber” was defined by the government. It’s an overworked job.
But when you consider that we have the longest work week in the world, it’s probably not true that more people work too much. In terms of the guitar, we all play an instrument for different purposes, and we all have different priorities that we put on that instrument.
If you’re playing for the first time or you’re trying to get in touch with someone, there’s a lot to do, which you can do in any setting. And if you want to take a break or to play with a friend, then you need to be ready for that, but this also allows us to play a full range. When I played with a friend for 10 years, the first thing he did was take a break once a week for an hour and a half.
What if I want to make a record?
If you want to make solo records, you need some time to practice your voice, or you’re going to be in a very different situation than if the intention is simply to play a lot of new songs. You
